Worst claim experience with Outsurance

After being claim free for about 6 years on all my insurance policies with Outsurance (Car insurance, Professional indemnity and household content) my TV stopped working and I submitted a claim on 17 June 2021.

After a delay due to covid, the assessors came out on mid July and indicated that a power surge damaged the main motherboard and said that it can be fixed and the quote was around R7,700. After enquiring about what guarantees that Outsurance would provide subsequent to fixing my Tv I was informed that it would only be 3 months warrantee on the actual part that they replace from their external service provider. They don't provide any guarantees themselves and that it would take at least 2 weeks to fix.

In order to try speed up the process they then proposed to replace my existing TV (Samsung Q7F) with a Samsung Q70T and after comparing the features this TV is clearly not a like for like replacement. As can be seen from the link below the Q70T is worse on most aspects:

https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-q7f-q7-qled-2017-vs-samsung-q70-q70t-qled/417/1818?usage=11&threshold=0.12

after doing my research the correct replacement for my existing TV

I have multiple issues with this: -> They therefore gave me the options between two bad scenarios (Outsurance get it fixed with no Outsurance guarantees or replace it with a worse TV). -> If Outsurance choose to fix the box, they should provide me with the same warrantees as when they choose to replace it otherwise I will have to pay my excess again if it breaks during the normal warranty period. -> They insist that the Q70R is not sold in SA although Samsung SA website clearly show it being available. -> Their offer of R13,500 for me to buy my own TV is way less than even the sub standard replacement they offered me.

I have been sitting without a TV for almost 2 months now.

Terrible experience with Keketso Dithung as manager who I have to chase for a week and still haven't received a call back.

Hello Marius V

We are so sorry about the inconvenience you have suffered all along and thank you for your feedback.

Our claims manager, Karel contacted you after having been in touch with Samsung, who confirmed our intended replacement is in fact correct.

You requested we arrange with our service provider to source the Q8OA model for you, which they agreed to and you will then pay in the difference.

Our claims advisor has since contacted you and confirmed our service provider will ensure the required model will provided. She also confirmed our settlement amount together with the costs to upgrade the device which you will pay directly to our service provider.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards
OUTsurance
