Weaseling out of paying pet insurance claim based on fine-print
I got a new pet policy earlier in the year to cover my cat and I splashed out for the executive plan. My 3 year old cat had no pre-existing conditions and was super healthy.
About two weeks ago my cat sick out the blue and after a couple of days of expensive hospitalization it turned out he had pancreatitis.
Of course when I claimed my claim was rejected because in the fine print of the policy pancreas had a waiting period of 12 months - even though it was not a pre-existing condition. I can understand long waiting periods if there is a pre-existing condition or signs of a pre-existing condition - but excluding the pancreas wholesale is a rather arbitrary exclusion.
So you win on a technicality. I am not sure I would recommend OUTsurance Pet Insurance to anybody because when I needed the insurance when calamity struck it was not there for me weaseling out of paying using fine-print. In fact I will actively dissuade people from using OUTsurance pet insurance. Do most people that take out pet insurance know that for serious stuff where you need insurance there is a 12 month waiting period even if it does not relate to pre-existing conditions? I doubt it, as non-veterinarians have no idea how to interpret the likelihood/reasons behind the waiting periods.
