They do not payout

My stepfather had a life insurance policy with them. When he past away they told my mom they can not pay her out because of a doctor that gave them wrong information and when they contacted doctor he told them that he had cancer before policy was taken out. But he told them it was just a growth that he cutted out. What stands us to do? I feel this is robbing her because he gave correct information according to his knowledge.
