STAY AWAY FROM OUTSURANCE

I will start off by saying if you’re thinking of joining outsurance… DON’T !

I have business insurance with Outsurance and I have some electronics insured with them for a full replacement, these are iPads an IPhone, printer, and two tattoo machines. The reason I chose this is due to the high cost of purchasing these items, so it would be smart to be covered if they break or get ****** etc.

About a month ago now my one Tattoo machine stopped working all of a sudden, it heated up so much I had to turn it off, a couple hours later I turned it on and it just turned off after a few seconds, i changed the battery and the same thing happened, so due to this I put in a claim with outsurance to replace it. Firstly they started off by saying they will put it under power surge with an excess of R8000, its battery operated and after mentioning this they still chose to go with that. So I sent my machine to them to get an assessment, after a couple days it came back that it failed due to wear and tear/ over usage, this machine is only one year old. Conveniently outsurance doesn’t cover wear and tear. I found this to be highly suspicious, so I asked the technician to call me and explain how he assessed the machine and did he open it to look inside etc. he said he charged the batteries and turned it on then it turned off after a few seconds. I already knew this as that is why I sent it in to claim back in the first place. So he basically gave and observation not an assessment, I also asked if he opened it up and over the phone he said yes, I found this difficult to believe as you need special tools to open it up. When I received the written assessment all it said was he charged the battery and turned it on, nothing about opening up so I assume he ****.

I opted to dispute the claim and get a second opinion. I sent it to my tattoo supplier I purchased it from after explaining the situation, upon receiving it my supplier told me that the machine was unable to be assessed by them properly as the technician from outsurance had damaged it so badly by trying to get it open they could not tell what was actually wrong. So again more proof outsurance had dropped the ball with this claim trying to get out of paying. So my supplier wrote an assessment of what they saw and concluded the technician is at fault. I sent this through to outsurance for the dispute and they said they will take a look at the evidence and get hold of my supplier to hear their side of things, a couple days later I got a call saying they are sticking with the wear and tear, I asked if they had contacted my supplier they said no, so I said I wasn’t happy with the outcome and they put through a second dispute. Nothing has come of it yet.

The machine is a year old, the technician has no knowledge of what kind of usage is too much for a tattoo machine so he is grasping at straws, he **** over the phone about opening, and his written assessment is barely an assessment at all, the dispute was terribly handled as my second opinion from the suppliers was barely even looked at even though they said there is fault from the technician and gave a full proper assessment to still be told it’s wear and tear and not even an apology that my machine came back in worse condition than what I sent it in. This whole thing has been an awful and frustrating experience, it has been poorly handled and people have **** about things. I will still fight this but as soon as it’s over I will most likely leave outsurance for a better company, if you do some research you’ll see many people who complain mention the wear and tear issue this seems to be common practice to get out of claims. STAY AWAY FROM OUTSURANCE! Trust me they will not help you in anyway, find another company.

I hope this helps whoever reads this avoid the situation I’m currently in.
