Should have known better.

I called into query whether Outsurance will cover a procedure to have my dogs tale docked due to medical reasons as per advise by 2 different Veterinary Hospitals... The first response I received was that because I had not taken my dog in for treatment they would not cover the procedure because no conservative treatment was done by a Vet. Both Vets I visited advised there is nothing to be done but dock the tail because this is not something a dog recovers from and causes them a lot of pain. The lady assisting me went back to her specialist team for advise and this time they came back and advised its a general exclusion on the policy!!. Firstly this is the info I should have been given the first time around instead of being told because no treatment at a vet was on record they wouldn't cover the procedure. That was why I called in the first place to find out if they would cover the procedure or not... I was also advised during the call the procedure is *******.... what has that got to do with the price of eggs, my dog is suffering and you tell me the procedure is *******!!!!! if I wanted my dogs tales docked (since they are Dobermanns) I would have found someone to do it, I wouldn't wait for over 2 years - we made the decision to not dock their tales and shape their ears but to leave them natural cause they beautiful just as they are .... This response made me feel unheard. How do you tell someone a procedure is ******* when I have just advised my dog has a medical issue ... and 2 vets have advised that the only solution is to have the tale docked??? A VET ADVISED TO DOCK THE TALE TO GIVE MY DOG A MORE COMFORTABLE PAIN FREE LIFE!!!

So now my boy must just continue being in pain till mom can save up and pay for the procedure....

Good day Maria,

We are sorry to hear about your pet's condition.

Further to our private response, we can confirm that Michelle our claims manager contacted you to discuss the procedure in detail.

You were happy with Michelle's feedback and you advised Michelle that you will notify us once you are ready to have the procedure done.

You have our sincere apologies for the initial disappointment.

Regards,
