Shocking shocking shocking - no insurance on vehicles - no communication - premiums gladly accepted

I am numb, so shocked. Turns out my car insurance has been null and void since I took out the policy (In March this year) because I never took the car for an assessment. NO REMINDERS, NOTHING. Among all the monotone blurb of the phone call and my apparent saying I understand, I obviously said I understood that I need to get my car assessed. Can't see the wood for the trees in monotone. I can't find any correspondence, even fine print telling me these terms and conditions. Never was I told about it again. And I am thorough. If I had forgotten or not made a note, WHY was no follow up call or email ever made to me to alert me to this effect. And now to top it all, I have to drive an uninsured vehicle to the assessment centre!!!! I'm not moving my car from my driveway until it's insured. Will have to phone another company to get one day's insurance. Does this make any sense whatsoever?????? Everything that gives me peace of mind with Outsurance is in question now. I deeply regret changing my insurance to them. As they say, pay for a donkey and don't expect a racehorse.

To make it worse, I discovered this be default last week and the call centre agent told me that the procedure was not required for my verso. Total fluke I phoned about something else today and discovered that I was totally misinformed

Reviewer Update
Follow up: I found wording on the policy to say that a condition was that I need an assessment. However my complaint stands that this slipped through the cracks and outsurance should have advised me that I had slipped up and wasn't covered Further to this, a very gracious manager from Outsurance phoned me to acknowledge that they had, in fact, slipped up and never followed up with me. He was most apologetic and assured me that had I had an unfortunate event over the past few months, there would have been a review of my claim rather than an outright rejection.
