In December they broke in to our holiday home in Margate and stole almost all our belongings and my wedding ring was one of them. I have insured my wedding ring with outsurance for the amount of R50000 more than five years ago. It was evaluated by the jewellers who custom made my ring for the amount of R37000 also more than 5 years ago and the outsurance advised me then that I should insure it for R50000 because of the value that will keep on going up. I have logged my claim with outsurance and they have gone to their suppliers where their supplier advised that they can make my ring for R24000 and still make one huge profit (this is what the supplier told me over the phone when they arranged for me to come through to talk about my ring to make a new one). So outsurance said that they will only pay me the value of their supplier which is R24000 even though my ring is insured for R50000.

I went to the jewellers that custom made my ring and they gave me a new quotation to the value of R56000. I sent it through to outsurance and was sure that the problem would be solved that they would pay me out R50000 because of my quote. Still they said no sorry they can only pay R24000. Now my question in disgust that I have is, why have I paid for more than 5 years for my ring to be insured for R50000 if they will only pay out R24000. I understand my ring is insured for R50000 so I am not expecting them to pay out R56000. This is really terrible service, so I am not paying for what I am getting.

Hello Angelique,
Firstly, our apologies for the belated response.
Our claims manager, Cardo did provide you with feedback on the settlement, explaining the purpose of insurance is to replace like for like or old with new. He confirmed our responsibility is to replace the item claimed for with the same item according to the specification of the item. We do not insure the value of the ring itself. We also require our clients to provide us with the value of the item and also check correctness of cover. Coupled to this, we request our clients to advise us when changes need to be made to their cover.
Cardo will contact you this afternoon to conclude the matter.
Regards
Dinky
