** Long post and rant ahead **
I am not one to publicly complain or name and shame a company on social media but either I'm stupid or I have misunderstood the purpose of insurance over the years (which would then still make me stupid 😂).
I took my cat to the vet on Monday for a sore on her nose that was just not healing. I admit, I'm very pedantic and probably worry too much about my cat and that's why I waited it out, but come Monday her nose was not looking good at all so I took her in. To find out she had a severe nose infection and was put onto anti biotics. I then submitted my claim to Outsurance Pets Department to receive a phone call the next day, stating they will pay for it BUT I must expect a call about my monthly premiums going up or possibly being removed from the policy due to frequent claims. To put it into perspective, here is a timeline of Juno...
June 2022 I adopt a 6 week old kitten - Juno. July 2022 I join her to Outsurance Pet Insurance because they were the "cheapest option". September she goes for her annual vaccinations etc, they pay. October 2022, silly kitty breaks her toe and had to be bandaged up and have weekly check ups for 6 weeks but was only charged twice by the vet, they paid, I paid the excess.
I was then suddenly whacked with a 35% increase on her premiums not even a year into the policy, which I refused. Not even my own personal Medical Aid goes up that much. They then proceeded to give me a "special rate" but it removed the Routine Care benefit which I subsequently needed a month later 😂 so they didn't pay.
November 2023, Juno gets a nose infection, they say they will pay, but then say I'm a frequent claimer etc. All the above was considered accidental/illness by the vet so it wasn't just for laughs.
Furthermore to Juno, my family has 3 vehicles recently added onto Outsurance Vehicle Insurance. They actually didn't beat the price when I called for a quote but I didn't get the promotional "winnings" because it was my even "luckier day" and the guy on the call had a discount code to give me which then beat my current insurance. It seems to me, they can't actually beat prices and even if they can, eventually they will whack you with premium increases or remove you from the policy. 🤔
On my father's first claim for a mirror that was hit off my mothers car by a biker, they refused to pay until my father eventually "won" the battle.
So my question is, isn't that why people get insurance?? To cover incidents that occur 🤔 That aren't foreseen? Aren't we meant to claim? Or am I rather meant to leave my cat to suffer in pain? I am given an annual limit of accidents, vet visits, diseases etc which have never been depleted... I then get an email today stating I have lost my no claim bonus due in 2028 or something stupid like that. There is more chance of me turning into a mer**** than not claiming for my cat for 6 years.
But until then, I shall have a stern talking to Juno. I will set her a strict curfew, tell her not to roll in the dirty sand and plants, not to climb trees or play with her buddies in the complex... Anyways off to the vet for a follow up appointment... 😂
Any advice on good pet insurances, throw them at me... Fed up OUTsurance
