Refusing to pay out valid claim - simply ********
During a recent heavy rainstorm my living room roof collapsed. Outsurance rejected my claim on the grounds of "WEAR AND TEAR" and "DEFECTIVE WORKMANSHIP".
The engineer they sent out cited the main cause as "time-related", but contradicts himself in the heading: "Poorly constructed roof caused to collapse by wind forces and weight of water and hail during a rain storm." The house has approved building plans from long before I bought the house and has a bank bond. A bank would not approve a bond for a house that is defective.
I had no choice in my home insurer and have paid premiums for 13 years. I had excruciatingly bad service from their agents and they hardly ever respond to emails.

29 Jan 2021, 13:45Good afternoon Etienne Your unhappiness about the outcome of your claim is totally understandable. Zandi our assessing manager has contacted you to address your concerns and to discuss the claim rejection in detail with you. Our final decision was based on the engineer’s report which was also discussed with you We firmly believe that your claim is not valid in terms of our agreement with you. We have responded to your objections made to us and provided you with the information. Our decision to reject your claim remains unchanged. RegardsOUTsurance

02 Feb 2021, 15:03You agreed to insure my home 13 years ago, without inspecting it, and you are still happily taking your premium every month. A part of your agreement with me was to cover my home against natural disasters.
I am not a structural engineer. Outsurance did not bother to inspect the building and FNB inspectors were happy. But now the R 140 000 damages are my responsibility? Thank you for nothing!
