R400 quote promotions

<p>I received an unsolicited call from Outsurance on Tuesday, 6 June asking if they could give me a quote on my vehicle.</p> <p>I explained to them that:</p> <p>a) I was already insured; had recently moved insurers, so wasn't interested in moving insurers; and</p> <p>b) did not have the time as I was really busy</p> <p>The agent asked if he could call me back, which he did.</p> <p>He eventually got hold of me on Wednesday morning, 7 June.</p> <p>I again, reiterated that I wasn't looking for new insurance - and he persisted; advising that the agent who would quote me would not take longer than 20 minutes.</p> <p>I conceded, and was put through to another agent; who was authorised to provide me with advice.</p> <p>We went through the motions of obtaining all the necessary details in order for Outsurance to provide me with a like-for-like quote. THIS QUOTE DID NOT TAKE 20 MINUTES - BUT 45 MINUTES!!!!</p> <p>Outsurance could not:</p> <p>a. beat my current premium, with an even higher excess than I pay with my current insurer</p> <p>b. give me car hire as per my current policy, i.e. Virgin offers me car "like for like";</p> <p>c. Offer me car hire if my vehicle:</p> <p> Suffers a mechanical or electrical breakdown; or<br /> My vehicle is taken in for a regular service;</p> <p> (Note: This is offered in my current policy);<br />d. Be able to offer me a “two year premium freeze” - which Virgin has just recently launched.</p> <p> </p> <p>I said that, according to Outsurance adverts, since he couldn’t beat my current insurance, I was due R400! <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Apparently, that only applies if I call in and request a quote!!!</strong></span></em></p> <p>Your advert on your website however is very clear:</p> <p><strong>We’re so confident that we can save you money on your car insurance on a like-for-like basis that we’ll give you R400 in cash if we can't. And if you’ve remained claim free with your current insurer for three years or more, we’ll double that to R800. That’s R400 or R800 in your pocket if we can’t beat what you’re currently paying. You’ve got nothing to lose. </strong></p> <p>Do you honestly believe it feasible that, when a company CALLS ME - UNSOLICITED - that I'm going to go onto their website and check the Ts&Cs, after I have seen the above advert that often; and therefore, even AFTER telling the agent that I'm not interested in moving insurance companies; accept that I DON'T QUALIFY FOR R400!!!.</p> <p><strong>PLEASE SUGGEST TO YOUR AGENTS THAT THEY EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE WHEN <span style="text-decoration: underline;">COLD CALLING</span> THAT THE R400 QUOTE PROMOTION DOES NOT APPLY BEFORE LAUNCHING INTO A 45 MINUTE QUOTE!!!!!!!</strong></p> <p> </p>
