Punishing women following a divorce / higher premium based on woman's marital status

Have been with outsurance for about 11 years, no claim during this period, have only asked for roadside assistance about twice, YET being punished for getting divorced by charging an additional R237 per month before annual re-rate and R252 per month post annual re-rate. This is ridiculous and insulting to loyal customers.

Now busy searching for alternative car insurance as just a quick search on 'hippo' shows that there are cheaper comprehensive cover options with other insurer(s) with a 'divorced' marital status.

Have read women's complaints online on same issue in relation to outsurance - so time for a test case on this to establish if justifiable **************? Would be good if a lawyer is able to take this prono bono to court so that it can be tested against the equality provision in the constitution as the reasons I hear in support of such ************** is ridiculous.

And I should add that i have always worked full time, was not dependent on husband's income (who during the marriage was either unemployed or had part time work with minimal pay), so was the breadwinner. How can i - the WOMAN, i should emphasize - be higher risk following my divorce?

Update: Spoke with Faizel Duval who was excellent and tried his best to review my profile and reduce the premium. Unlike the first person I spoke to when i called outsurance earlier (Outsurance can get his name from the call records) who basically said there is nothing they can do to reduce the premium further than the amount showing if the excess is increased or not increased. Thanks Faizel for all your efforts to assist and for the, from what I could sense, genuine concern. BUT ... While the premium has been reduced to outsurance's satisfaction, it is still high though, considering that my excess is now more than double what it was for me to be able to get the premium to lower level - so still basically being punished for getting divorced. I still strongly believe that there is no justifiable ground for classifying a divorced woman as high risk, since not all single women go out partying or were/are dependent on the husband's income, as some of the justifications for the policy indicate. This policy needs to be tested against the equality provision in the Constitution, and it is also quite stereotypical in the way it views single women. A very problematic policy that i think would not stand constitutional muster, since the justification is, inter alia, stereotypical and disproportionately affects women / unfairly discriminates.

Thanks Outsurance for looking into my complaint and for doing so with urgency. Much appreciated. And a special thanks to Mapula Mosuwe who called me today and was also excellent, and displayed great customer service and people s****s. Hope other Outsurance agents can learn from Mapula and Faizel in relation to how customers are treated and in showing genuine sensitivity to customers' plight.
