Poorly Assessed Claim
I had a PC Monitor damaged from severe wind that blew it over and damaged the screen of the monitor making it unusable. So I registered the claim as per damaged caused by the wind blowing it over - the OUTsurance person that loaded the claim listed it as this and then appointed an assessor - Planet Gaming. They collected the monitor and then proceeded to take three days before finalizing an assessment that it was due to accidental damage, this despite the fact I had listed it under weather / Wind and the fact that they never inspected the area where the monitor had been during the incident, they clearly did not have the correct information in order to make the assessment. I must note that this was a High end Monitor made by the NEC corporation which is still available in South Africa - the statement I got from OUTsurance was that it is not available in RSA (which is incorrect) OUTsurance also stated that as I don't have accidental coverage on the monitor (apparently only the PC box is covered - which is unacceptable as when I loaded the policy I made it clear what I wanted covered - which was to full PC's the one in question is a high end gaming platform - and every PC that I've ever encountered always has a screen or a monitor attached so surely it should be one package deal?)
So apparently due to the fact that I didn't have accidental coverage and the assessor had stipulated that it was accidental damage despite not having done a thorough assessment of the situation - the OUTsurance person was only able to assist me with a reduced payment which was a "special arrangement" to assist me as I was upset about the incorrect assessment.
The NEC monitor would have cost over R14 000 to replace and they only offered me low end LG Monitor that wasn't even worth R5500 as a replacement. I declined and accepted a cash payment which after the Excess of R2600 being deducted only left me with R2400 which will need to go towards a replacement Monitor for the PC.
I'm truly not impressed with the loading of my policy from the outset as this didn't reflect full coverage for my PC unit and then I'm frustrated with the events from the point of loading the claim. I'm going to be looking for an alternative insurer due this event.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to look into the concerns you raised.
After responding privately to you, we escalated the matter to, Angel, our claims manager. When the items in question were added onto cover, you were advised that there is no accidental cover. As noted by Angel, the calls can be made available to you. Angel has advised you to provide her with a quote which she would then review once received.
We do apologise for the disappointment.
