Poor service

Received an email from OUTsurance that they could not recover my access from the municipality after hitting quite a few potholes . They requested I take immediate photographic evidence but in most cases the cracks in the rims only appear after a while and the time I do get back to the scene which could be a few days or weeks later the pothole has been repaired. Sent them photographs of the repaired potholes and they confirmed that it was not financially viable to pursue these cases with the Municipality even though they paid out the excess on one rim. With the terrible conditions on our road’s especially in Winter when the potholes appear I feel that the Insurance company could have pursued this matter more aggressively. The City that works for all is a real misnomer. Been fighting this matter since 2021. This whole excess thing is a way for Insurance companies to abdicate their responsibilities. I have subsequently bought brand new rims but am out of pocket of R15000 as each rim damage was caused on different occasions and in most cases I could not stop as then I would be obstructing traffic especially in the CBD area of Cape Town. What baffles me is that the municipality paid the excess on one rim and not the rest. Sent photographs of the repaired potholes but all sorts of excuses were used to deny their responsibilities. Why pay taxes and fuel levies as they do not use it for our benefits. Our roads are in shocking conditions. Where do our taxes and levies go? Rhetorical question!!

Good afternoon Riyaz,

Thank you for your feedback.

We will always try our best to recover your excess from the municipality however the recovery is never guaranteed.

Our legal manager Amalta called you to discuss each of your pothole claims in detail and the efforts that were made on each.

We understand your frustration with the poor road conditions, and we are sure that most road users share your sentiment.

We can only hope that the road conditions will improve in the near future.

Regards,
The OUTsurance Team
