Pet Insurance you should Avoid.
I will advise all pet parents to stay away from outsurance pet, as well checkers pet since it is underwritten by them.
When I signed up with outsurance pet I was sold a policy with alot of value adds, the ones of interest to me was 1) puppy classes paid for 2) discount if the per gets a perfect body score 3) discount of the dog gets neutered 4) routine care
I have this policy since March 2021, my mini schnauzer is now 11 months old. Since inception I have only used the one puppy class benefit and the routine care for one vaccine my dog got. My dog however has never been ill or gotten sick and therefore we have not used the insurance for claims of that nature.
So the first kick to the gut was the discount I received, my dog got the perfect body score which I had to go to a vet to fill in. My dog was also neutered, putting him in discomfort for awhile and had to use a cone. He got a whopping 1 rand discount. It was laughable and insulting at the same time. Then this week I receive an email from outsurance about a premium increase that is more than 20%! Never in my life having insurance of any nature, did I see an insurer do a 20% increase, let alone for pet insurance. Reason given was because of risk profile and claims history. As mentioned the only claims I had was for puppy classes and one vaccine under routine care (by the way this is a one time usage thing, even if you do not use the full amount). I cannot believe that during a pandemic when people are stretched, outsurance would impose a more than 20% increase. I gave outsurance the opportunity to address, they unfortunately do not see anything wrong with this and would prefer to lose my business.
I therefore advise all pet parents to stay away from outsurance, don't let their clever marketing fool you. Rather go for proper pet insurance like dotsure, medipet or one plan. Outsurance should stick to car and household insurance, which is their domain and which they can use flimsy reasons like this.
We fully understand your disappointment about the annual increase.
Our sales manager contacted you and discussed the influencing factors we consider when policies are retated, with specific mention of loss ratio and inflationary increase.
You have since cancelled your policy with us which we are sorry about, but thank you for allowing us the opportunity to have discussed your concerns.
