Outsurance will leave you in the cold

My dad was insured by Outsurance. When he took the insurance policy he had was recorded as a regular driver. When I started using the car to travel to work he covered me as a driver. In terms of monthly payment I was included in the cover. On the 4th of January 2018 I was in an accident on my way back from work. I called Outsurance immediately as I knew we were insured by them. I was located on the system via my id number , when I spoke to one of the consultants. I was taken to hospital and later I was contacted my an Outsurance road assessor by the name Mr Muller. He contacted me a few times to ask me questions about the accident. I was cooperative and provided him with everything he needed at that very moment. A week later he came to my home to take my statement and I advised him that where the accident took place there's a camera that could second my statement. On receival of the footage he told my dad that the footage was not clear. After a week and a half went by he contacted my dad to say that our claim was rejected. Apparently our claim was rejected only because I was Jotted down as the regular driver, keep in mind I was included in the policy as a driver. We have never claimed once since we have been with Outsurance. My dad was then told that he will be refunded all his premiums back that would be +/-R 48,000 in total. Thereafter they let the other lady who was involved in the accident know that our claim was rejected so they won't be repairing her car. A week went by they didn't transfer the money into my dad's account and my dad called their customer line and he was told that it was still being processed. Another week went by my dad started calling the road assessor who was handling our claim but he kept ignoring my dad. My dad tried calling him numerous times to no avail. Almost six weeks after my accident my dad was called and told that they will no longer be refunding him his premiums as mentioned before because he "hadn't given them the correct information" and if wasn't happy about the outcome he can take them to court. Now the money was supposed to been paid a few weeks back but the Outsurance team dragged their feet just to they could find a way not to pay my dad out like they said they would the first time we had corrospondence with them. A letter of material misrepresentation was sent to us and this has *****ed my dad's name for future reference if ever needed insurance. I was not enough that they rejected our claim and not giving back our premiums as suggested but they have dragged our name through the mud. Some insurances think that because you are black and over age you can be **********. I would advise people to rather open a separate account to save up for instances like accidents rather than pay an insurance company because you are never guaranteed anything for the premiums that you pay on a monthly. At the end of the day a driver is a driver as long as he/she is covered by the insurance.

Good day,

We do apologise for the delay regarding the refund.

Our claims manager contacted your father to inform him that the refund was processed.

Your father was happy with the feedback given.

Thank you,
