Outsurance tries everything to short change the client

My husband called in to claim for a power surge which left our fridge/freezer off over the weekend. We left for Durban on Friday and returned on Monday night only to find the fridge/freezer off and everything was defrosted and smelling. The fridge was fine bit the contents were going/gone off. The claims agent asked my husband what the amount was, he told him maybe R4000 but had not checked as yet. I calculated most of the contents, we did not include some things like beetroot, sauces and spices which should still be edible. The amount came to around R5900. I threw the prawns and meat away as I could not handle the smell. The vegetables in the fridge had to be thrown away, it was clearly rotting. I was awaiting some type of feedback today, my husband comes home now to tell me that Outsurance is only paying out R4000. I am so angry. This is the second claim in 11 years and If they are not trying to avoid paying a claim then they short change their clients. Another issue is thrice now I have asked Outsurance to match or beat another quote, they have refused and all calls are recorded, so the nonsense I hear every morning on 94.7 about Outsurance paying a client R500 - R1000 is absolute bull. This is another reason to look at other Insurance companies for cover.
