Outsurance third party claim (do not trust this company!!)

Hello,

On 20/12/2023 I was involved in an accident in Cape Town (V&A Waterfront) whereby a driver insured by Outsurance rear ended me as I stopped at a pedestrian crossing, while a father and his kids were crossing the road. Thankfully, none of the pedestrians were injured or affected by this accident!

I asked the driver how possibly he did not stop, and he responded that he was looking over at the parking lot to see if it was full. We made our way to the police station where the driver signed an accident report accepting full responsibility for the accident.

I was borrowing the vehicle from a family friend, as I was visiting South Africa from UAE. I myself am a fully licensed driver in South Africa, as well as the vehicle being fully licensed too. Because this was not my vehicle, I suggested to the owner that we claim from Outsurance as a third party, instead of going through the owners insurance which would affect their no-claim bonus and future insurance premiums.

I logged the claim with Outsurance 22 January 2024, following countless back and forth between myself and Outsurance representatives I was finally offered a settlement today (15 April 2024, nearly 3 months later), along with a quotation for cost of repairs at their preferred service provider.

The quotation is for ZAR40,000.00 (just under) and the settlement offered is less than ZAR7,000.00 - this is less than 20% of the damages, for which their client is, and has accepted 100% responsibility. No explanation has been offered for why I'm being offered less than 20%. The vehicle is a 2018 Hyundai Creta, so no concerns with value of repairs VS value of vehicle.

It seems this type of ******* is common for Outsurance, see this review: https://www.hellopeter.com/outsurance/reviews/outsurance-3rd-party-***-***

They also have 8 one star ratings for third party claims on this site for this year alone!!

Hello Yaseen

Further to our private reply to you, we received feedback form our liability claims manager confirming he was in contact with you.
The merits were reviewed and we are pleased to know you are satisfied with the outcome.

We are still looking into the reason for the initial apportionment, and will discuss this decision internally.

Thank you for accepting our apologies for the long time it took us to finalise the claim, as well as affording us the opportunity to review our settlement offer.

Regards
The OUTsurance Team
