Outsurance: The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
“We bend over backwards and want to make your day awesome.” This is the little sales pitch and catch phrase. But how true is this really? As a consumer and client I am just getting so tired of being at the receiving end, or getting the short end of the stick.
Here is my little story with what I once believed to be a great insurance company, but who at the end of the day just proved to me to be like any other shark out there.
I have been a client of Outsurance for the last 13 years or so, paying faithfully each month, just like many other clients of the insurance business out there. We have been blessed not to have been exposed to any situation that required of us to claim from Outsurance, except for 1 minor incident when our geyser burst. Yes, that’s right, 1 claim of a small geyser. The damage was so little that the ceiling did not even have to be replaced. So in a nutshell, that’s my history with them. It’s up to the reader to determine whether or not it’s a good track record.
Now this is where the story takes a twist for me as a faithfully paying servant and so called valued client of this very average company. I wanted to ensure my household contents, while in transit, from my residence to a harbour. That’s it, only while in transit, and of course I was more than willing to pay the additional costs which I fully understood.
Well, this took me an entire day to eventually be refused and turned away. Wow, now I’m confused. Why and how could this be? I only wanted insurance for the belongings while in transit in the event of the truck being hijacked or being involved in an accident. I started to ask more questions and eventually got to an answer that the risk carried by Outsurance was too great and that the address to where the belongings were being transported to was not an insurable address.
Well, I am flabbergasted. What has the end address got to do with “in transit”? What is not to be understood about “in transit”? I did not want their cover while the belongings were at the address identified for delivery. So why harp on the issue about it being an address that can not be insured?
Although feeling highly offended and insulted, I think the main question we as loyal paying clients should ask is why. Why was this simple request denied? And I think the reason lies deeper than the feeble excuse of the actuaries with regards to an address that can not be insured.
With all the *******ion these days is it not possible for Outsurance not to even trust their own people? Leak information of someone’s household content being transported? And then the vehicle is hijacked. Now I can see the risk. The risk from inside their own company. This may be a wild statement, but for what other reason, and is it actually so ridiculous?
The aim of this is only to share my experience with other consumers. Loyalty towards clients does not exist anymore, and if you have placed Outsurance up on a pedestal, do yourself a favour and consider all scenarios that you or your family could experience before falling for their sales pitches, empty promises and smooth talk, because believe me, they do not always bend over to help you or make your day awesome.
