Outsurance - Opt to sell your car rather than fix it in case of accident

I have been the Outsurance client since 08 June 2012 and since then I have never had a car accident or claimed from my insurance. My car has always been covered for market rate. In December 2018 I had a car accident and reported it to Outsurance. My car was assessed and the quote given to Outsurance which was approved. We then took a car to their preferred panel beaters in Richard’s bay (I’m from Ngwavuma - Ndumu) for repairs. When the panel beaters started with the car they find other issues linked to this accident which they couldn’t see without either stripping the car or putting the car in detector machines (I don’t know how they find this), they then informed Outsurance of the additional costs.

Outsurance came back to me yesterday 21/01/2019 and said they are writing-off my car, it is uneconomical for them to repair it. When I asked how because the claim is less that the money im covered for, they said they have their own threshold that they use to determine if they can repair a car or now. From June 2012, I have paid a total of R49,333.90 as premiums to Outsurance, I have paid R4 420.00 as excess for this repair but Outsurance is saying to me I have these 2 options: · Write off option: We will settle R67,230.00 after the excess of R4420.00 is deducted, this amount is payable once we are in possession of the vehicle and the registration documents and signed change of ownership Once payment is done, in your elected account the funds will clear within 48 working hours. · Own Repair option Should you wish to keep the vehicle as is, we pay the maximum repair value set aside for the vehicle, less the excess. Then you will undertake the repairs of your own vehicle. We will settle R28,897.75 after the excess of R4420.00 is deducted, this amount is payable to you immediately and the funds will reflect within 48 working hours.

So as a write-off they want to take a car that I’m giving to my parents, fix it and sell it, what kind of *****ery is this? As a second option they want to only pay half of the claim, why since the claim is less than what im covered for or even the premiums Plus excess I have paid to them.

Just Fix the damn car or Give me all my money back, you guys are *****. So much for being a loyal customer for SEVEN years. I’m puzzled as to what is the use of insurance if it is not to cover you in case of an accident

Good day

Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention.

Lerato our claims manager contacted you to discuss the settlement options you raised in more detail. You were happy that we reached a suitable settlement where you get to keep your car and receive a fair value for it as well.

Regards,
OUTsurance
