Outsurance, once again, ****ming you out of money instead of Insuring your home!
I submitted a claim for damage to both my bathroom walls as well as my balcony due to the earthquake on Sun, 11 June 23. They sent an assessor through today who had a look and said theyre quite small things to fix. The bathroom wall has a crack all through the other side to my daughters bedroom. There are tiles where the crack occurred and this guy said to just patch it up with grout and that it's pointless to retile the whole area. Same on the other side, poly filler and done. It seemed to me that Outsurance sent this guy through to dismiss any sort of damage. The balcony, his recommendation is just that it's cheaper to buy and replace then for Outsurance to actually fix. He also said, a few times, that these were very small issues and that his costing may be less than my excess. The 2nd bathroom, we could just fix up ourselves, it's pointless getting the insurance company to get the damage repaired. So he calls now, the cost has come to R6500 - R4000(excess). That's R2500 that Outsurance will pay me out for the damage to the balcony roof and two bathrooms. R2500!!! My husband also asked if that crack may worsen in time, he said yes but it will take some time. He recorded the entire conversation, if you have to listen to the recording, you will also find that the damage was minimalised. If that wasn't enough, he insisted I give him an answer now as to whether I accept the claim or withdraw, if not he will be penalized if he has to wait for an answer from me. He was not taking no for an answer to I just said goodbye and cut the call. Another wonderful round of service from Outsurance, they do everything they can to increase your premium but try to dismiss or minimalise any claim you submit. I am so tired of Outsurance and their uselessness. The whole point of an Assessor coming through is to convince the client that it's small issue and that the client just fix it themselves instead, therefore withdrawing the claim which Outsurance will then not have to pay for. I took photos of the tiles splitting and the crack that extends to the 2nd bedroom, after hearing this man's response now, I am opening a case at the ombudsman.
