OUTSURANCE NOW BECOMING A DISSAPOINTMENT

I BOUGHT A 2ND HAND VEHICLE 4 YEARS AGO. I ADDED IT TO MY INSURANCE TELEPHONICALLY AND WAS NEVER ASKED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE ASSESED. I RECENTLY PICKED UP STONECHIPS ON THE BONNET AND THE PAINT IS NOW STARTING TO FLAKE OR PEEL OF AT THOSE POINTS. OUTSURANCE OS NOW REFUSING THE CLAIM SAYING IT IS CLEARLY DUE TO INFERIOR PAINT WORK PREVIOUSLY DONE ON THE VEHICLE - WHICH I AGREE WITH -MY PROBLEM IS IT WAS DONE BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER I ASSUME - IF YOU ARE EXCLUDING WORK DONE ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE I BOUGHT IT SHOULD YOU NOT THEN HAVE THE VEHICLE ASSESSED AFTER PURCHASE AND THEN LIST EXCLUSIONS? I AM REALLY REALLY DISSAPOINTED IN THIS ATTITUDE - I HAVE BEEN WITH OUTSURANCE FOR MANY YEARS - I DO NOT CLAIM OFTEN - NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM AND THE OUTSURANCE RESPONSE IS - SORRY WE DO NOT COVER THIS - I DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO CHECK FOR THINGS MYSELF TO THEN NOTE IT WHEN INSURING - THAT I BELIEVE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY - IF YOU DID THIS AND THEN SAID SORRY THIS BONNET LOOKS LIKE IT WAS RESPRAYED WE DO NOT COVER THIS UNLESS WE CAN GET A RECEIPT FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER AS TO WHERE AND BY WHOM IT WAS DONE - THEN I WILL ACCEPT THAT....REALLY OUTSURANCE THIS IS A DEALBREAKER FOR ME...... YOU ARE NOW FORCING ME TO START GETTING QUOTES FROM OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES......2 OFF MY CHILDREN ACTUALLY WORK FOR AUTO AND GENERAL BUT I HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED THAT BECAUSE OF GOOD SERVICE AND A "SIMPATHETIC"EAR WHEN IT COMES TO CLAIMS I CHOOSE OUTSURANCE - THAT HAS NOW CHANGED

Good day Charl,

We will always ensure we do the right thing and we treat our clients fairly. Please note pre-existing damages and poor workmanship as in your scenario, is a policy exclusion.

We escalated the matter to our claims manager, Donavan. He discussed the matter in detail with you and we will be assisting you with the repair work.

Regards,
OUTsurance

My faith in outsurance has been restored.... they have undertaken to fix - thank you very much outsurance....just my answer to your previous remarks - i fully understand the exclusion - my point is then you should inspect all 2nd hand vehicles when purchased by someone who is trained to spot possible exclusions? does that not form part of your service to not only protect your interests but also help protect your customers?

thank you again for solving my problem

Please note, an inspection center only checks for pre-existing damages and to get the VIN/engine numbers. You have been a long standing client of OUTsurance and at that stage the inspection was not a requirement.
