Outsurance Increase premium by 45%

I am extremely dissatisfied. Outsurance says one thing in their adverts and what they put out there but once you become their client then they speak a different language. I am dissatisfied because Outsurance have increased my premium from R1652 to R2550 which works out to a 45% increase. I have called in to query this and their response was that I had two claim incidents. I questioned them to ask why do I have insurance? it is to be able to claim. Meaning I pay monthly premiums that covers me for the risk of claiming and now I must also pay because I claimed. That means I am paying double the risk which they should be taking but shifting to their clients. Now I am not saying that there shouldn't be an increase because everything goes up because of inflation but 45%? No one in South Africa that I know of gets an increase in their salary of 45%. Inflation is 8% and their increase is far beyond that. I spoke to senior advisors and a senior manager which was unable to assist as I was trying to request that the increase be brought down to 15% of which they were not prepared to meet. I never missed a premium, nor was it ever late for the past 5years that I was insured with Outsurance. Even this did not help in negotiating the premium down to 15% increase. I would hate to move but Outsurance is making it impossible to have cover with them. We are a family that sticks together and If I should move then my father, that has been with Outsurance for +-20years, will move as well as my sisters. This I have also mentioned to the manager of which the call was recorded. This is by far the worst I have ever been treated by an insurer and surely hope that someone at Outsurance is able to assist to review our policy.

Good evening Henry,

We understand that receiving an annual increase comes as a disappointment.

There are a variety of factors that will influence a premium increase at rerate stage such as claims, inflationary adjustments etc. We will request a client services manager to contact you tomorrow.

We do apologise for the disappointment.

Regards,
The OUTsurance Team
