Outsurance: Disproportionate Excess quoted

Subject: Formal Complaint – Disproportionate Excess quoted for a Television Claim. Policy no. OT***5

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the excess quoted on my claim for a television with a retail value of R7,000.00.

I have been informed that should I make a claim on my television set that the excess payable amounts to approximately R5,460.00 excluding getting a technician to come to the premises to determine if needs replacing or not.

This is, quite frankly, unreasonable and absurd. An excess that is almost equal to the value of the insured item completely undermines the purpose of having insurance cover at all.

Paying premiums with the expectation of meaningful protection, only to be faced with an excess that leaves me responsible for nearly the full replacement cost, is deeply frustrating. In practical terms, this means that submitting a claim offers little to no financial benefit and places the burden squarely back on me as the policyholder.

While I acknowledge that excesses form part of insurance policies, an excess of this magnitude is grossly disproportionate and cannot reasonably be justified for an item of this value. This outcome is neither fair nor aligned with what any customer would reasonably expect from an insurance provider.

I request that this matter be reviewed as a priority and that a fair and sensible resolution be presented. I would also appreciate a clear explanation of how an excess amounting to nearly the total retail value of the item can be considered appropriate.

This experience has significantly affected my confidence in the value of my policy, and I trust that Outsurance will address this complaint seriously and promptly.

Regards, H.E De Jager
