Outsurance - Bad service!

We've had nothing but bad service from OUTSURANCE. Our Microwave's transformer burnt out on Sunday evening, just before loadshedding. Microwave transformers usually pack up after 5-6 years, as per google. We've had the Microwave for about 6 years. Outsurance refuses to pay us out for the microwave, claiming that loadshedding was the cause of the transformer burning, even thought it happened before loadshedding. We unplug all our appliances before loadshedding occurs, with the exception of the fridge and freezer. I will be taking my business somewhere else. It's a shame that after paying for 8 years, Outsurance is not able to assist us.

As per your conversation with my husband regarding the claim for our Russell Hobbs microwave, where the transformer burnt. Please see information below found on Google. The burnout was definitely not caused by Loadshedding and I feel this is just used as a reason not to pay the claim. I would like it to be put on record that I we are not pleased with the outcome of the investigation and will be taking our business somewhere else.
Can a magnetron wear out?

A magnetron can indeed wear out over time. Most magnetrons are designed to produce around 1,500-2,000 hours of energy, but this can be as low as 500 depending on the make and model.

They certainly aren’t designed to last forever, but the average household should get around 6-7 years of use from the appliance.

Can a magnetron be repaired?

A magnetron can be repaired, but it’s not the kind of job I’d recommend undertaking yourself unless you really know what you’re doing!

If you do decide to have it fixed – or replaced – by an electrician, make sure you get a full quote outlining the costs of the labor and any additional parts.

If the magnetron is more than 5 years old, I would strongly encourage you to consider replacing the appliance if you can afford to do so.

Other parts of the microwave will fail over time too, and it might be better to bite the bullet and get a more modern replacement!

I am even more disgusted with the service after the second call that my husband received. Outsurance, you are really something else! Trying to convince us that the damage was caused by a power surge, yet your technician told my husband it is the transformer that blew. BAD SERVICE!!!!!!

Good day Vanessa,

Thank you for your further feedback.

Nonie our claims manager spoke to your husband regarding the claim. The assessment report indicates that the damage caused to the microwave is due to load shedding. The damages are less than your excess. If the damages are less than the excess, the client is liable for the repair costs. Your husband advised us that the damage is due to wear and tear. Please be advised, wear and tear is a general policy exclusion however we believe the damage is due to load shedding as per the report.

We do apologise for the disappointment.

Regards,
The OUTsurance Team

Good Day

Please explain, how can it be due to loadshedding, when the microwave 'broke' before loadshedding? The technician advised that it was a transformer that blew and that he would advise Outsurance to replace the Microwave. So I am not sure why you are stating that the report is different. I feel that we are fighting a losing battle!
