Not settling a claim

I have been an OUTsurance client for 20+ years and barely claims. I also added my dogs on the pet insurance through OUTsurance. This week my baby had an epilepsy which was very traumatic. We took our dog to the vet, and they ran blood tests to determine the outcome. They couldn't find anything to pinpoint what caused the seizure and OUTsurance now does not want to pay out anything for the vet account, due to the vet not being able to pinpoint what caused the attack. It is the same as a human going to a doctor after an epilepsy attack and the medical aid saying they won't cover because we don't know what caused it. I am happy for the vet to do extensive tests and spend thousands more to establish the cause and send the account to OUTsurance to pay. Why do we pay so much per month for insurance with these kinds of response. This is totally unacceptable.

Good day Lynette,

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

Further to our private response, we can confirm that our claims manager, Bonne, discussed the claim in detail with you.
Based on your profile with OUTsurance, a decision was made to settle the claim.

Hi. Thank you. The claim has been sorted. Not sure why we need to fight to get to the solution, but Bonne was very good.

The next issue is the yearly increases
Every year I find myself in the same situation when the annual increases are announced. Right now, I feel unable to have a conversation with anyone about this, as I haven’t been heard for the past three years. Each year, I have to make adjustments to my policy by removing coverage or lowering values to justify the large increases. While I receive detailed explanations about the reasons for the hikes, I still struggle to understand the logic behind them. If this trend continues, it will likely force many of your clients to cancel their insurance simply because they can no longer afford the rising premiums. This is a worrying trend for both your business and society at large. For example, Outsurance introduced an excess on my pet insurance. While my premium has remained the same, I’m now negatively impacted. I compared the past three years of premium increases, and if you take a person earning R100 and paying R50 in insurance in year one, the net effect is that this person will have R6.63 less in salary after three years due to the premium increases. And that’s assuming a 6% salary increase, which in many cases is only 4-5%.I’m not on a small salary, but even I’m struggling to keep up with the excessive increases. My car’s value is decreasing, yet I can’t understand how Outsurance can justify the same increase in premiums for car insurance when spare parts and the vehicle itself are losing value. Please review my policy schedule and send me a revised proposal with a more reasonable increase. I’m not looking for explanations or excuses—just a more reasonable adjustment to my premium.Thank you for your understanding. Please see my calculations underneath | 2025 | Percentage increase

Good day Lynette,

We understand that receiving an annual increase comes as a disappointment.

There are a variety of factors that will influence a premium increase at rerate stage such as claims, inflationary adjustments etc.

Our retentions team will discuss possible premium relief options for you.

Good day Lynette,

Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, there were 4 claims during the period which had a direct impact on the rerate.

Our retentions team will discuss this in detail with you.
