Misleading Ads on Radio

<p>On Friday 16 September 2016, I purchased a new vehicle. I updated the insurance policy we had with Outsurance to reflect the new car as I traded in the old car. I was given a quote of R931 by Mr Etienne Du Plooy from Outsurance. He did not mention an administration fee of R12.59.</p> <p> </p> <p>On Tuesday 20 September 2016, I received a call from Absa Idirect and after asking for a quotation on the exact same conditions as the Outsurance Policy, I was quoted an amount of R552.11 premium per month. This sounded too good to be true and I furthermore enquired and was told that risk would come down even further if I had a tracker device fitted. I was told that since this is a brand new 2016 model vehicle, I did not need any further security features.</p> <p> </p> <p>On Wednesday 21 September 2016, I phoned Outsurance and told them that I found a cheaper quote. When I quoted the numbers, the consultant realised that the Idirect quotation could not be beaten. I then informed him that I want to cancel the policy with Outsurance with immediate effect, would like a refund for the premium I paid for September and that I am taking them up on their advert referring to the R400 that would be paid if a cheaper quotation is obtained. The person then informed me that I would be refunded the premium for September on 22 October 2016 but the R400 could not be paid as I was an existing customer and the offer is not extended to existing customers.</p> <p> </p> <p>I regard this as misleading, as every 2nd advert on all the radio stations is an outsurance ad that creates the image that they are the cheapest. However, when confronted with actual facts they retreat on their message conveyed via the radio. This is false and misleading and Outsurance should suffer reputational risk if this is how they mislead the public.</p> <p> </p>
