Living in a semi-rural area outside of Kimberley, there is: single/NO authorised electrician/plumber on the panel, usually booked up 5 days in advance. A burst geyser, pipe, tripping electricity can’t wait. Outsurance suggests a local repair costs less than excess Outsurance doesn't open a claim water often runs into a cupboard, wall, room downstairs, electrical plug. This manifests later but no recourse. A drunken policeman crashed into a massive garden tree 5 years at ago at such speed: door handles flew off roots lifted the house concrete trim around windows etc. still falls off Outsurance didn't appoint a specialist/assessor to investigate immediate AND any possible future damage. Result of Outsurance policies is: value of my house has dropped considerably we who live in semi-rural areas pay the same premiums for vastly inferior and inadequate service, subsidising city dwellers.

A storm on 9 November 2024 caused a tree to fall on power lines and a substation. The area was without electricity for almost a week.

Outsurance refused to honour the claim, stating it was Eskom's problem. Multiple wall plugs blew in the house, two tv's for security cameras also blew as did the energizer on the electric fence and who knows what else.

It took until January to acknowledge it was a valid claim.

In the interim, no security in an area where I have no close neighbours.

This was the impetus to report to the Ombudsman.
