Insurance claim rejected

I have been with Outsurance since 2002, insuring two households and all our cars. Since then I have had one smaller claim for replacement of goods due to a break-in and three smaller car accidents, caused by other drivers. Recently I have had a break-in in my house in Plumstead. The majority of my claim comprised of jewellery items - the ******s were interrupted and fled when my daughter came home. Outsurance has now rejected the part of the claim relating to jewellery items, on the ground that I currently have no specified jewellery items on my insurance policy with them.

I do not understand how this can be the case, as general household insurance is supposed to cover one against theft due to break-ins. None of the jewellery items specified on the claim were worth more than R5000, as a matter of fact the majority of them are estimated to be worth between R500 and R1000. I was furthermore made to feel as if there was doubt on Outsurance's side as to the claim being genuine.

I have since withdrawn the claim. I shall await my no-claim bonus, due to be paid next month. Then I shall cancel my policy with Outsurance and join another company.
