Insulting leagal department employee!

On 22/10/2016 my 1-year-old daughter and I was in an accident as a lady reversed from her driveway into my car as we drove past her house. The person immediately accepted liability and her husband contacted their insurance. Luckily we are both with Outsurance. I was afraid that we would have financial expenses, something we really can't afford right now. Being the third party and having no fault in the incident we asked the guilty party to claim on their policy as to avoid paying an access or increasing monthly instalments due to a claim. I would also lose my Outbonus.

As the case progressed I was phoned by a Mr Rene from Outsurance Legal Dept. on Thursday, 27 October 2016. The person started explaining to me who he was and that I basically have two options I had to choose from:

1. Claim against my own policy and their client would pay the access.

2. Outsurance pays out an amount of R19 992,72 of the R28 561 damages.

I didn't like what was explained to me as both options would have cost implications on me and I had no fault in the whole incident. Choosing Option one, although I wouldn't be responsible for paying the access, I’d lose my Outbonus and an increase in my monthly instalment is unavoidable. Choosing Option 2, I would have to cough up more than R10 000 before repairs can start on my vehicle.

I informed Mr Rene that the two options were very bad news to me as I lose either way. I informed him that I would prefer not to makes a decision as I would first like to speak to an Outsurance consultant and especially my wife in whose name the policy is. At this point I was laughed at. Rene asked me what I wanted to discus with the consultant and that they would not be able to help me. I felt mocked by the total disrespectful way Rene laughed at me for the second time as I stood by my decision to first consult with my wife and the consultant assigned to the case.

The way Rene dealt with the matter spoke of total disregard for the sensitivity of the situation, lack of respect for the person on the other side of the line and extreme unprofessionalism as a representative of Outsurance.

As a teacher I intend to use my influence and this situation to tell the masses for years to come of my bad experience and give reasons to avoid ensuring with Outsurance. I am currently busy shopping around for an Insurance company that values and respects their customers, as Outsurance clearly does not teach their employees at the legal department this. What arrogance!! I not only forfeit my Outbonus and face massive increases in my monthly instalments, repairs on my car will only start two weeks from now. This all and then I have to deal with the fact that I also fell victim to an arrogant Outsurance Legal Department consultant.
