If you are a business, look elsewhere

Summary: Outsurance does not understand how a business operaters / does not care.... And this is after they have spent over R100k on a vehicle worth R140k... I see it as my duty to warn other businesses and to seek legal council. After over three months and numerous complaints, I have an asset that I cannot sell and don’t feel confident to drive as I have no ideal what ‘unseen’ shortcuts were taken.

My Story:03/03/2016: A four-month old work vehicle (With 8000 km on the clock) was T-boned by a vehicle disregarding a red light (not jumping the light, but going around other stopped vehicles at speed). Numerous vehicles stopped to give me their details to witness the disregard for the rules of the road. Tow truck drivers and ambulances arrived and I called outsurance with the sole intention of finding out if the tow trucks could take my car. I felt ok, but was in shock and shaking. I repeatedly told the operator that I was in shock and all I wanted to know was whether the tow trucks could take my vehicle, but he insisted on completing an entire claim. He also repeatedly told me that I needed to give accurate information or it will affect my claim.. and I repeatedly told him that I was in shock… But he did not seem to care.

After 40 minutes on the phone and holding up traffic, he authorised the tow truck to take the vehicle, but this was only the beginning…

After a day I was contacted to tell me that I could fetch my rental vehicle. OK great…

But then a couple days after that I was told that my vehicle would be repaired (and not written off). I exclaimed as the vehicle had spatch****ed, but was reassured that the vehicle would be 100%, but was not given the option of which repair shop it was taken to.

I was notified that the vehicle was taken to ‘Elite Autobody’ (which is ironic, because there is nothing elite about them) and received notifications giving me updates on the vehicle. I called repeatedly and was finally given a date I my vehicle would be ready (28/03/2016). This was close to the 30 day limit of the rental vehicle, but ok… On the 28th, I call to find out if I can collect my vehicle only to be told there is a ‘delay.’ Expecting a day or so, I was told another month… Called outsurance, they did not seem to care, but said they would ‘follow’ up… Elite autobody in the mean time also did not seem to care, as they were reporting to Outsurance..

I then realize that I am going to be without a work vehcile unless I do something… Called outsurance and was told that there was no way that the rental vehcile would be extended….

I then complained… went through an entire complaints procedure and was reluctantly granted an extension of three weeks on the vehicle…. Surely enough, right!? WRONG!

Three weeks came and went and I was forced to return to rental vehicle.. again, Outsurance was fairly clinical… It was not their problem…

On 09/05/2016, I was then told that my car was ‘ready’ and I should come and pick it up…

Upon arrival and inspection of the vehicle, it was plainly evident that all possible costs had been cut. To such an extent that they had not even washed the vehicle… But there were obvious visual issues structural issues with the vehicle (like a 2cm gap difference from the top and bottom of the tailgate), additional scratches and a ‘new’ door that rattled when you opened and closed it… But I’ve included the pictures…

What annoyed me the most about this, is Outsurance had instructed them not to fix these structural problems… and limited them to a ‘list’

So I refuse to accept the vehicle, again go through Outsurance’s complaints department… With them finally agreeing to ‘fix the issues…’ I again tell them that these are fundamental structural issues… Outsurance then agrees to a GM inspection.

03/06/2016 (Three months after the incident), I get a call saying that that its ready… While improved, the sides of the vehicle are still spatch****ed, so much so that they have had to move the canopy seals because they would not close under normal circumstances… The repaired door does not seal so there is little difference between an open and closed window… The glove compartment pops open when you close the door (due to the accident damage). The radio no longer functions.. The hand break pushed up against the passenger seat (again highlighting structural issues).. and to top it off.. the alarm system no longer works (sure it opens the doors… but nothing else…). Ironic as this is required for the insurance…

Now what of the GM inspection… Well, they cleverly covered themselves.. and gave Outsurance a list subject to ‘unseen’ issues’…

So, I’m now dealing with OUtraunce who say they will ‘fix’ these problems… but fail to see the fundamental…. This vehicle has fundamental structural issues and no one from OUtsurance has ever gone to see the ‘repaired’ vehicle… This has cost my business bitterly and no from Outsurance seems to care…

The hard truth: If I had known what would transpire it would have been cheaper for me to simply purchase a new vehicle… Rather than go down this road…Something which again, Outsurance cannot seem to understand.

And what of the ‘legal’ route Outsurance is ‘taking’ against the other driver… No word…

I see it as my duty to warn other businesses and to seek legal council. Over three months down the line and I have an asset that I cannot sell and don’t feel confident to drive as I have no ideal what ‘unseen’ shortcuts were taken, where they did not feel the need to ‘hide’ the visual issues.
