Mixed emotions with OUTsurance. Claim submitted for power surge damage on a 55" Samsung Curve, paid R21000. Claim processed and outcome is replacement TV is valued at R15399 or so, with an excess of R4500. When I question the value of the TV, I was informed that depreciation of electronics plays an important role. Funny enough when i raised the depreciation versus my premiums at the beginning of the year i was informed that " The prices of goods and replacement parts increase yearly". Conveniently now depreciation favours OUTsurance. Being a member of OUTsurance for large number of years and having claimed before for ****** soccer Jersey and a Bicycle, payout was to the value of the goods not the content. Surprisingly this has changed and feel very aggrieved. As a Layman they really fail to guide and in their policy documents there is nowhere defined on the issue of insuring the content and not the cost of the content. In saying that I need replacement of equal value.
Further to our private response, we can confirm that Slindile our claims manager contacted you.
Slindile addressed your concerns regarding the different quotes. The settlement amount was based on the quote which we received from our service provider for the replacement value of the same model TV. A once off decision was made to adjust our settlement amount which you were happy with.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to look into the matter.

OUTsurance
