Forced to take out a contract, rude, and irritable when I try cancel

Dear Outsurance Team

I decided to do my annual insurance quote off recently and after hearing the extensive radio, tv and print advertising campaigns, I decided to give Outsurance a try. Last time I will ever think about consulting the people in green.

Issues I faced:

1) Noisy call centre that was attributed to people "being happy". Well I'm happy I needed to ask the sales man (Siya Mzizi) to repeat everything thrice.

2) We progressed through the call at a snail's rate and was held up for over 45 minutes. I was quoted a premium of around R6 less than I was already paying (with a higher excess and less benefits) and when I asked to be sent the contract to peruse, Siya insisted that he has said everything that would be in a contract and he cannot possibly provide me with same. Thank you Outsurance for forcing me to send my bank details to you before I can sign up.

3) I was put through to a Manager (Mr Reddy) who assured me that this was common practice and ensured that my cover would only start on 1 November and I could cancel any time. He requested my bank details again and assured me ending my cover beforehand would be easy.

4) After realising that R6 difference is not really worth changing insurance companies, I emailed Siya with a cancellation email the policy. 3 minutes later Siya called. I told him I was unhappy and wanted to have the better premium (which was offered this morning). Siya seemed upset and put me through to Jannie Bezuidenhout, his manager. Jannie started a very patronising and persistent line of trying to make me not cancel and quoted me all the accolades that Outsurance had won and started to negatively talk about my current Insurer in that he said that they have issues with the tax ombudsman. I had to be persitent with him in that I did not want this policy in the forst place in which he said he listened to my sales call and that I had requested this. Please let me know if all supervisors listen to all 45 minute long sales calls in a matter of a few minutes. Seems legit.

5) After Jannie said he would finally cancel my contract I got sent a brochure on Outsurance and no contract. When I emailed Siya about the cancellation contract, he gave me the Outsurance call centre number.

Outsurance, the terrible service offered to me over the past two days is shocking. This line of sales is a little short of duress and withholding information should not be in your line of business.

Thank you for your feedback. We also know you will appreciate our concern about the very poor service you describe.

Our client care manager, Shannon contacted you with an apology and also discussed our internal processes we follow should a client wish to cancel. She confirmed the policy was indeed cancelled at the time, and it was just unfortunate you received the brochure subsequent to the cancellation.

We are still investigating the sales expererience and will address our findings with the individuals involved.

In closing, please accept our sincere apologies for very poor service we could never condone.

Regards

Dinky
