Extended Motor warranty plan is a ****!!!
I am honestly not sure what is the purpose of having an extended motor warranty plan that when you claim you are questioned as if you have claimed before or shouldn’t claim but just pay!!
I currently drive a volvo v40 since 2016, I was the first owner and have taken care of the vehicle ever since i purchased the car. I only service my car at volvo, use volvo parts if they need to be replaced. This is from the smallest part as a globe to big parts such as brakes pads. This shows I take care of my car.
Yesterday I took my car for a routine service and was called by the volvo service consultant to say, I brought this car in time. The chem belt is damaged and the longer I drove this car, the car would have stopped and causing more damage to engine which would have costs me more money to replace.
At that moment I remembered of the motor warranty plan I have and read the schedule and indeed I was covered for a chem belt replacement. I logged a claim *** and my case was handled by TSHEGOFATSO THEKISO, who spoke to my husband and I was listening to the conversation. The one thing I gathered from the conversation was that this claim wont be paid but will be rejected. He was questioned as if we just wasting our time on claiming cause the only time they would pay this claim is if the car broke down on the side of the road and we called in and upon investigation they realized that the chem belt was the problem and damaged the engine and ONLY then was the claim valid for payment
This honestly doesn’t make sense, would you rather replace a chem belt before it causes more damage or replace the chem belt and engine because the car breakdown on side of the road.
How can you as a warranty specialist question parts replacements when you should know that replacing a chem belt will be cheaper as compared to replacing both chem belt and engine and other parts??? Please can someone let me know, how this is possible?
I am going to cancel this plan because it clearly will never pay for any claim. I am now forced to pay from my own pocket because clearly should I pay if I want to avoid replacing the engine and other parts. Which could be rejected if paying for chem belt is a problem!!!
The warranty plan from outsurance is useless and DO NOT take it. Rather stick to dealership warranty plans, which is what I should have done from the first place!!!
Motor warranty isn't a service or maintenance plan. Motor warranty is designed to pay towards the cost of repairing your vehicle following mechanical or electrical breakdown. Mechanical or electrical breakage means the sudden and unexpected failure of a part arising from any permanent mechanical, electrical or electronic fault, which causes the part to stop working.
Our assessing manager, Jason, has been unsuccessful in his attempts to reach you. He has subsequently spoken to your husband and has also sent you an email. In order for us to finalise the claim, we need to complete the validation process. Please respond to Jason's email with all required documentation. Once received, Jason will call you to finalise.
We do apologise for the inconvenience caused.

I received a response from Tshego Thekiso stating that my claim has been rejected because
I quote
“ We refer to the below matter and our telephone conversation on 11 September 2024. We confirmhaving advised that your claim has been rejected due to the following reason(s), inter alia:ROUTINE SERVICE AND MAINTENANCEWe will not cover any part or repair which forms part of the service or maintenance to be carriedout as per manufacturer schedule. Please refer to the Motor Warranty Brochure of your policy under:”
So this technically means that my car would have been covered if it had a mechanical or electrical breakdown. According to Jasons reply as well.
Please make me understand this part, on the mechanical warranty Boucher page 5. You have the following clause as to when you will not cover a claim or repair a part
‘ 8 Any failure of a part that was caused because you continued to operate your vehicle after you became aware of a potential problem is not covered.’
So now according to volvo, every 8 years or when you reach 160k you should replace your timing belt, Pulley system etc this is a standard because they know that after that time there is risk to continue and drive the vehicle.
So now we took our vehicle for a service and we had to replace it because failure to it it would result to mechanical breakdown as per volvo
So does this mean that we should take the risk and wait for the vehicle to stop and when we claim chances are it will be rejected because volvo would have made notes on the system that client was advise to change the chem belt and refused. This would have took us back to the clause I indicated above.
So please Jason explain this to me , when was I suppose to claim? Give me a scenario?
I believe in your department you have people who are very knowledgeable about cars and able to advise when a claim is warranted or not.
I plan to cancel this policy because it is useless to me and I wasted my money. There is nothing that this plan will ever help me with, its useless to me. PERIOD!!!

Thanks for your further response.
As mentioned above, motor warranty isn't a service or maintenance plan. Motor warranty also doesn't cover wear and tear.
If a cam belt or the pulley system breaks due to wear and tear, this isn't an insured peril. If you need to replace the cam belt or the pulley system at the recommended service interval, this isn't covered by motor warranty.
Please get in touch with the assessing manager, Jason, if you require further information.
