Daytime *******

I am disappointed with OUTsurance and the way they have handled my claim.

I have I insured my Apple MacBook at R40000 which means my premium is high for that amount. However upon my claim I am told that my replacement amount approved is for R25000 because the replacement unit selected is for the cheaper MacBook even i am insured for R40000. OUTsurance has decided that like for like replacement to give a cheaper MacBook because that is more economically for them. I understand them saying they will replace my laptop for like for like however there are more then one like for like units in the market available. Why does OUTsurance feel like they can make the decision for me even though I can afford to select a replacement unit that best suits my needs. The claim advisor Phimzile goes to say that there are not in the business to upgrade my laptop, then why did they allow me to insure my laptop at R40000 to only tell me that I will be approved for R25000, so you were happy to benefit from a higher premium that I was paying however when I am suppose to benefit then I have limitations. So why did OUTsurance not limit my insured amount it’s the time of getting my items insured. The only person who get something out is OUTsurance and not the customer. Phumzile furthers says that if I am not happy I can get a cash out and add additional funds to get the laptop I want, so I am insured however I still need to go and pay additional funds even though my insured amount would cover this.

Good afternoon Abigail  Thank you for your feedback and for allowing us the opportunity to clarify.  Our claims manager Tshepi contacted you after having received your complaint. She discussed the matter with you in detail and further explained the difference between the replacement value of an item and the insured amount.  We believe that the claim was handled fairly in terms of our agreement with you.  Regards OUTsurance
