Claims
In July 2017 my Fiance took out comprehensive vehicle insurance with outsurance for a BMW I had bought, R130 000.00 The vehicle was registered under her name and had me listed as the only user of the vehicle as she cant drive.
All the requirements as per my policy was met: All documents were submitted, the vehicle was take for inspection at Glass fit and the premium was paid on time via debit order.
In November I was involved in a accident with the vehicle, Metro cops, ambulances and tow trucks responded "this is why we have insurance and medical aid", the emergency services said i didn't need hospitalisation . Metro reported the accident and the vehicle was towed away to the A1 yard.
About 4 days late i received a call from outsurance informing me that the vehicle was inspected and found irreparable therefor uneconomical for them to repair.
A inspector (Frans Mpookeng) visited us a few days after the phone call. He asked how the accident happened, my injuries, he took the licence papers, keys and wanted to know about any previous claims. I has 3 previous claims 1 hijacking and two vehicle accident that was not my fault and other parties covered these cost.
A few days after the visit from Frans he called and said he took the key to BMW, they had found the last time the vehicle was driven was in February 2017. ***!!!!!! impossible,, l had a speeding ticked and Sanral images. Clearly the car was driving post the date stated by BMW. I was also informed that my fiance had not disclosed my previous hijacking, to which she rep**** she did inform him and this was not her claim . Outsurance then went to investigate further and accepted that the hijacking was not her incident but they will deduct R4000 from our claim as the premium would have been more.
19 days later another call from another investigator (Quinton Kruger), his findings are: the vehicle was never in a drivable state, parts sent to Germany apparently proved this and the vehicle in the Sanral images was not mine. Quinton wanted me to say his findings are correct but i couldn't agree. Never during the Glass Fit inspection or after the accident did anyone mention missing parts, and i didn't have the car for 19 days since the accident, Outsurance had the car in their possession. I mentioned to Quinton that he can look at the pictures i had, sanral images and his images this is all the same car and not a twin as they have been claiming.
15 December i received a letter that my claim had been rejected and i need to collect my car from A1 assists yard. I went to the premises where the vehicle was and requested to see the images of the vehicle on arrival to the yard. I proceeded to inspect the vehicle in its current state and found overwhelming differences. The person responsible for taking the pictures of the vehicle on arrival to the yard informed me that two inspectors from outsurance was busy with the vehicle. With the managers permission (mr Droepi) I had pictures taken of the vehicle in its last state and found huge differences, it is clear that the engine compartments had been tempered with therefor i refused to remove the vehicle from the yard.
I want everyone to be aware of outsurance. Their motto: We hassle and we don't pay. I will be taking them to court.
