Bad insurance

On the 1st of August they deducted a premium for August month comprehensive insurance on my citi golf so I bought a new vehicle on 27th August and on the 30 Friday I requested changes to the policy on the citi golf of wish the call me so I wanted to cancel The insurance on it but they begging to choose essential cover so I took it. But according to me I'm covered under comprehensive until the last day of 31 AUGUST 2019. I reported an incident that has happened on 31st August 2019 of malicious damage to property and that my vehicle sustained damage when I was fleeing for my safety. Now outsurance says I'm covered under essential cover and they don't entertain machinical damage to my vehicle which was caused by myself when I had to drive accessivly to get to safe place and to get out of danger when I was attack by gangsters. Still they didn't pay out or give feedback. According to my knowledge the essential cover should have started on the 1st September 2019 am I wrong
