I recently tried to claim for a cracked windscreen from Outsurance who informed me that the excess would be R3500, needless to say I cancelled the claim as a new windscreen cost me R1050. I called to cancel my insurance with them and was told to look at the numbers before making up my mind, well here are the numbers. Dial Direct who I am now insured with's premium is R983 per month with excess of R7600 for accident and R800 for windscreen. I get a cashback bonus and ten million liability cover. Outsurance who claimed that they beat all of these except the monthly premium was R1893 per month (almost double) with excess of R7500 (basically the same), windscreen excess of R3500 (almost 4.5 times more), cashback bonus and only five million liability cover. And yes Dial Direct does cover hail and fire damage contrary to what your Call Center agent trying to convince me to stay with Outsurance said. In fact the only perk is the roadside assistance if I break down closer than 100km from home and FNB's petro card has me covered for that anyway. I don't really understand how Outsurance has any customers when they are double the price and don't offer any further benefits.
