50% increase in monthly premiums.

I have been am Outsurance client for the past 5 years, with my Homeowners insurance held with them. I just received my annual renewal letter and was shocked to see that the monthly premium increased from R956 to R1435 per month. This represents an increase of 50% year on year.

I had a claim after the last heavy rain storms in February 2020 upon which an amount of R22 000 was paid for the repairs.

It would appear that the increase in premiums is linked to the claim. This is not an assumption seeing that I had the same conversation with Outsurance last year and your claims are limited to the value of the annual premium.

Why do I pay premiums to yourself when I will be limited to the claim value, with any amount over and above the annual premium to be recovered in the following year.

I made a call to my broker this morning and the very same cover was obtained from Santam at a much reduced premium.

Good day Marius,

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to address the matter with you.

Selda our client care manager contacted you to address your concerns and to discuss the rerate in detail with you. There are several factors that will influence a premium increase at rerate stage such as claims, underwriting changes, inflationary adjustments etc.

Selda did a product comparison with you and you informed her to leave the policy active.

Sorry for the disappointment.

Regards,
OUTsurance
