42% increase on Outsurance premium
We have been with Outsurance for 15-20 years and we are now very disappointed with the way we are being treated. We were recently advised that our monthly premium will be increasing by about R1000. This is for our household and out and about cover. We called through and were told that due to two claims in the past twelve months, we are being penalised with a rate increase. These two claims were for my wife's cell phone which was ****** from her person whilst doing the fun walk for breast cancer awareness and fund raiser. The other was a claim for my cell phone which was water damaged. In both cases we incurred an excess of close to R700 per claim and lost our out-bonus. Is this not penalty enough? As mentioned the increase is 42% up from out current premium. The person who took our call did an immediate review, which took a minute and adjusted the increase to about R700 (down R300 from the R1000 increase). This is still ridiculously high. I mean we see on TV and hear on the radio how people are saving thousands by switching to Outsurance, yet we as existing clients for many years are being treated in this way. I understand how insurance companies work and would have accepted a smaller increase but 42% after losing our out-bonus and paying a high excess on both claims is very harsh. We are now looking at quotes from other companies, but it is not ideal to move after all these years.
