Take Accountability

I visited the store with my son, weeks ago as he is looking to get a canvas tent for a wedding present. Having viewed the options, I looked at various websites to find the perfect solution. I telephoned Campmor who confirmed they do not deal with the public and that I would need to get a price from Outdoor Warehouse. So I went into the Fourways Crossing store again, this time on a Saturday and provided the clerk with ALL my details, name, phone number, model number of tent required. Campmor is not open on the weekend and she confirmed she would telephone me on the Monday. Naturally she didn't! So almost two weeks later I went into the same store for the THIRD time and enquired as to who could give me the prices. "Someone" had indeed written on the business card where my details were but they telephoned again on Tuesday. I was given a price of R8,500 for the combination I wanted and on that basis I said please go ahead and order. I was told the admin manager would phone me back. Still waiting for that call too! So I telephoned this afternoon and spoke to the branch manager who advised no order would ever be placed unless a 50% deposit was paid. I am MORE than happy to pay a deposit if someone gives me an invoice. I was actually chasing an order number so that I would have something to track. However lo and behold, R8,500 is the COST price and they actually want more than R12,000 for the tent. NOT the price I was given and I had secured funding from relatives overseas based on the price I was GIVEN!!!!! And to cap it all, the manager advises that the salesperson did try and call me yesterday (31 Jan) and left a message. When I advised that I had a number of missed calls yesterday but that no message was left, I was in effect called a ****. Where is the accountability to be taken by management for the inefficiency of THEIR staff? How am I as the customer supposed to know that I must add more than 40% mark up onto the price they quoted me? I am appalled. Can't say I was overly impressed by the attitude at all. Jeepers! Does no one even think to offer a compromise to appease an angry client when the client did nothing except ask to buy a flipping tent!
