Unprofessional Conduct of Oudtshoorn Provincial Traffic Officials - A Concerning Pattern

I recently had an unfortunate encounter with Oudtshoorn Provincial Traffic that compelled me to share my disappointing experience. On December 15, 2023, while driving my black Volkswagen City Golf from Dysselsdorp to Oudtshoorn at a speed of 100km/h, I experienced a troubling incident that raises serious concerns about the professionalism of the traffic officials.

As I approached a traffic vehicle with its lights on, coming from the opposite direction, I witnessed an unexpected U-turn on the highway, resulting in being pulled over. The ensuing interaction with the traffic official was far from satisfactory. The official, who failed to introduce themselves, approached my vehicle with an aggressive tone and baselessly accused me of not wearing a seatbelt.

Despite maintaining a consistent speed and wearing my seatbelt throughout the journey, I was unfairly targeted and accused of only belting up when I observed the U-turn being made. The unprofessionalism of the traffic official was exacerbated by their failure to introduce themselves, leaving me in a situation where I felt compelled to comply rather than argue, especially given the presence of my 16-year-old daughter who was visibly nervous.

To add insult to injury, I received a fine of R500 as a consequence of this incident. What is even more distressing is that this is not the first time such an occurrence has happened to me. I cannot help but feel that I am being victimized by a pattern of unprofessional conduct exhibited by certain traffic officials in Oudtshoorn.

In light of this experience, I urge the Oudtshoorn Provincial Traffic authorities to investigate these incidents thoroughly and take corrective measures to ensure that such unprofessional behavior is addressed promptly. The lack of professionalism and courtesy exhibited by certain traffic officials raises serious doubts about the integrity of the traffic management system in this region.

I sincerely hope that my review serves as a catalyst for positive change within the Oudtshoorn Provincial Traffic Department. Motorists should feel safe and treated fairly, and it is essential that the department addresses these concerns to maintain public trust.
