Dome Drift down the Vaal River, Vredefort Dome

I highly recommend the Dome Drift which is done by Otters Haunt Eco Retreat. The trip starts with a brief information session at the retreat to explain what exactly happened to create the Vredefort Dome and the evidence that exists. After that it’s a drive down a gravel road to the Vaal River. You can paddle your own boat or go with one of the guides in the passenger raft. This trip is particularly relaxing with only a few low-level rapids. The guides are on hand to help if anyone runs into difficulties. About halfway through the 8km trip a light picnic is served on the bank of the Vaal River. The scenery is truly beautiful. The primary guide is Professor Graeme Addison who has a wealth of knowledge to share in an accessible way. His passion for the subject matter is obvious.
