Questionable experience in repair department
I gave my dad's faulty 7D Mark ii body in for repairs. I told them the rear panel of the camera stopped working. I thought it must be a loose flex cable, or something similar, as the camera gave no issues before and wasn't dropped or anything. I paid the R400 which you have to pay up front.
Then Orms came back to me with this "TO REPLACE DIAL ASSY. CLEAN AND SERVICE." So it wasn't a loose connection, but apparently the shutter button/dial unit (Canon part CG***) that needed replacement. R 550 for the part and R 2654 for labour. Ouch! I paid in the rest of the money for the repair.
At the top of the email Orms stated this : ** QUOTATIONS ARE NOT BINDING AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE UPON FURTHER INSPECTION / REPAIRS**
I thought to myself that it must suck if they quote you and then come back with another email telling you to cough up more.
And that is exactly what happened. Orms now want another R 3275 to replace the mainboard. Quote: "Please find attached re-quote, unfortunately the main board needs to be replaced. It was not the dial assembly as previously thought."
Hey, if the mainboard needs replacing I can understand it. But why initially quote for a shutter button/dial assembly if the mainboard needs to be replaced? Oh I see why. You "thought" it was the problem...
Wow. Much service. Many professional. Such skills. So great.
I am sorry for your frustration. Could you please send your contact details and a copy of the quotation(s) to the following email address: ***. I would like to escalate your complaint to our Managing Director, Jason Ormrod, as soon as possible.
