Bad prep and paint work

Orbit refuse to repair their bad work even though they state I have a 1 year warranty.

My Vehicle went to Orbit for an fender bender fix. The work needed was, to replace the front middle section of plastic bumper and also repaint lower section which clip together.

The vehicle looked ok on the initial inspection.

A few concerns have popped up over the last month.

1. the corner of the bumper has started to flair out and bumper was hanging lower on the left side
2. there were many chip marks starting to surface on the bumper right through to the plastic as if the primer was not set correctly or the paint was too thin.

Regarding the chip marks, I avoid driving behind trucks or on roads where there is any loose gravel or stones to avoid such chips but I am finding new chips every week after I wash my car. This is very strange that only the new middle section of the bumper has 10 chip marks but none on the lower section. If you had to jinx me and say I was unlucky about the chip marks then surely the bottom section should also have a chip mark but it doesn't.

When I contacted Orbit they had me take to car to Leonard their Workshop manager for inspection. Leonard refused to repaint the middle section and I then opted for 3 more inspections done by reputable body repair shops and a professional car paint detailer. Funny how they all had the same thing to say that the primer under the paint was not set correctly thus is the plastic showing under the chips.

Leonard at Orbit again refused to fix the bumper and I have then contacted my insurance to take the matter further.

My last attempt to get Orbit to fix the bumper was via email and look what they had to say.

Me

"The car will be brought in on Monday morning for the bumper to be refitted. Should Orbit or Leonard not repaint the bumper or give me a valid and scientific reason why the bottom section does not have any chips? then I will take this matter to every social media. I am not looking for a freebee spray job, I am a client who is unhappy about firstly the poor fitment of the bumper and more upset about how poorly it was sprayed. It’s a brand new bumper and now it looks 3 years old already.

I have marked off all the chip marks for Orbit to see, I am looking forward to your reply."

Orbit - Linda Kershaw
"Dear Robin

We aligned the left side headlamp gap between the lower headlamp and the front bumper. The left front bumper corner was adjusted .

As far as I understand, Leonard had the discussion about the bumper with you already, thanks."

Basically they told me to come fetch my vehicle and the paint work is not their problem.

What happened to the 1year warranty on the work done? Why can’t they answer my question "give me a valid and scientific reason why the bottom section does not have any chips?

What does cause paint chips??
Paint chips from a loss of adhesion to the substrate. This can occur as a result of - First, poor prep work before painting, inferior paint product and poor mixing.

Orbit has left me with a sour taste in my mouth and thus will I exploit this info on social media.

New middle section of bumper - bad primer, thin paint and incorrect processes followed = chips all over

Bottom section - just added fresh coat. (OEM standards prove that no chips will surface)

Orbit should close their doors if this is their low standard of paint work on a simple bumper and not to mention the poor fitment.

Orbit have fixed all the issues

In a matter of a week, have Orbit fixed all the issues and my vehicle looks great.

They had a paint technician come from PPG Industries and they assessed the paint work while I was present. The report indicated that paint was done 100% correct.

Thanks to Orbit Coach Works, PPG Industries and ABSA Idirect for going out of their way to satisfy me as their client.

I will recommend Orbit to anyone and they have proved that their customer service comes first. Might have taken me a few emails and telephone calls but in the end they have fixed everything exactly how I wanted it.
