Out of warranty, can't even pay to fix the electric toothbrush, must throw away

I bought an Oral-B pro series electric toothbrush 2,5 years ago. It is unfortunately out of warranty now because that is only 2 years. Recently my perfectly working toothbrush had stopped charging on the charging stand, I tried moving it around, cleaning the base, I even tried charging my toothbrush on my husband's stand because I thought it was the charging stand itself. Turns out I think it's my toothbrush. So I contacted Oral-B by phone, the lady in customer service said that now my toothbrush is out of warranty and I don't have a receipt from 2.5 years ago of the toothbrush I had bought from Dischem, there is nothing they can do because they don't have anywhere to fix it in SA. I even offered to pay to get my toothbrush fixed because I want to fix it instead of just throwing it away. 1. why does it matter if I have the receipt or not, it's OBVIOUSLY Oral-B, it's branded and it's definitely Oral-B product. 2. so a customer must just throw away a R2000 toothbrush after 2,5 years since it's out of warranty? Absolutely ridiculous, why would anyone buy electronics from Oral-B going forward?
