Unfair business practice

My daughter stayed at the OppiKampus Lavaria hostels in Potch since January 2019, she has since decided to change her study direction and therefore left Potch in the beginning of July 2019. We signed a lease agreement with OppiKampus valid from January to December 2019, however we obviously gave notice as my daughter wont be living in Potch anymore. But according to OppiKampus you are allowed to give notice but have to pay rental until October 2019 (almost 4 months after giving notice). The consumer act says if there is more than 6 months left on a lease you have to pay two months notice rent and if there is less than six months left you must pay 1 months notice. We gave notice on 11 July 2019 and paid up until end August 2019, which is fair according to the act. I just feel like they are trying to bypass the consumer protection act, if it's allowed everyone will do it.
