OPENVIEW ****!!
OPENVIEW ****!
A business must be conducted with utmost integrity and I believe Openview has **** to the general public with they much vaunted adverti*****t on launching " PAY ONCE ENJOY FOR LIFE" - that was a lie in my opinion. Recently for last around early part of 2022 they flight an advert promoting a new decoder. This is standard as DSTV does this all the time. The warning confirmed that "current decoder will no longer receive software upgrade, etc". However no option of buy-back or trade-in was given for the outgoing decoder. Nor was it ever confirmed that the current decoder will be "disconnected". I obviously exercise the option to ignore "lack of upgrade support" as I was not interested in "new" suppose features which was a paying facility. As I sometimes switch off decoder to take a break I discovered today 29 May 2023 that the "old" decoder has been disconnected when I call the call centre. The sales pitch was that it was over 10 years but I only used it for 2 years prior from date of purchase. This is irrelevant they no longer permit this decoder to access their platform. What does the new decoder offer - absolutely nothing unless you subscribe to "added features" such as PVR. DSTV have upgraded their decoder multiple but never rendered older versions absolute except for services that was not available. My current DSTV decoder 2003 model and it's still working whereas Openview "free for life" decoder is 2013 model. Clearly marketing "PayOnce" has been updated to state "PayOnce until we introduce a new model, than PayOnc AGAIN!" Openview should be reported to consumer affairs and ICASA or any other appropriate body for blatant misleading adverti*****t. What is even disingenuous as that this decoder is still request me to contact to activate which I did only to be told the decoder has been disavowed by OpenView, on what basis, I was told it is old. I have two decoder ***3 and ***5 that I must throw-away!!
Thank you for reaching out. Openview is Free, Our content will always be Free. Unfortunately, all products become outdated due to the rapid pace of technology. As such our decoders also advance with new technology to improve your viewing experience and can no longer be supported in terms of software upgrades that are required to enjoy uninterrupted viewing.
Contrary to your statement, the decoders are not disconnected, the decoder is unable to keep working as it continuously requires software updates. Devices becoming outdated, and needing to be replaced is not something unique to Openview.
As you mentioned, we have shared updates that these decoders were becoming outdated and a new decoder would be needed to continue watching our content.
We do apologise for the inconvenience.

Outdated software does not invalidate a decoder unless you employ a tactic to change encoding! DSTV no longer provides software updates for certain decoder but their older decoder are still working.
software updates only provide support featurettes, not signal transmission!
You offered this decoder to the public viewing pleasure "FOR LIFE"
What updates are you referring to. The decoder in my possession issued is 2013 has firmware driver version 1.144 Jan 2014 and an application version 0.2.201(3571/3571) for a release date 2015 Aug 12 0858. IT WAS NEVER HAD A SOFTWARE UPDATE!
Hardware of the decoder functionality has never changed except application!
You have clearly find a good excuse to increase sales of your decoder without even offering your loyal customers any rebate whatsoever.
Your call centre confirmed my decoder can no longer function, your USSD also gave me an error when I try to re-activate.
WINDOWS XP is no longer supported but it is still functioning operating system having reached it's end-of-life. It is only absolute in terms of applications and compatibility issue in terms of newer hardware!
You have actually misled the public! "PAYONCE ENJOY FOR LIFE".
