De*****ed
Background A long time ago, on August 23, 2020, I became stuck traveling from Polokwane to Pretoria. My car's engine just died, and the engine light abruptly appeared. Since my automobile was still covered by warranty at the time, I informed Opel SA. Opel SA helped me drive home safely, I was given a rental car for the day and my car was then taken to the dealer of their choice which is Westvaal Polokwane
The dealer found that some of the wires were rat-bitten and that the cylinder block on bore number two had a crack after inspecting the car to see what the issue might be. I was told that the entire engine would be replaced with a brand-new one and that I would only be responsible for paying for rat-bite wires. I enthusiastically accepted their statement that replacing an engine would take time because several logistics and procurement procedures would be involved. They rented a car for the duration of the work until the engine replacement was completed.
Throughout the engine replacement process, I stayed in close contact with Opel SA until I received word that my car was prepared for pickup on October 16, 2020. I was then notified not to go on the 16th of October which was initially given because the Opel SA inspector needed to visit the dealer for a quality check and test drive. I ultimately received a notification to come pick up my automobile on October 19, 2020. When I first observed that a rat had nibbled the wires during the collection, the dealer had app**** insulation tape. I complained right away, and they fixed the issue right away.
Main Issue I spent about 4 years or 80 000 km driving the car with the supposedly new engine. Since then, I have been driving the vehicle without any issues.
A few weeks before May 28, 2024, when I was scheduled for a 165 000 km car service, I observed some oil leaks and became concerned. Since my car is old enough to begin having these kinds of issues, I'm just thinking that it is fair enough it might happen. I told the dealer service advisor to take care of oil leaks in addition to performing the 165 000 KM interval service on my car when I brought it in for it. I received a call from the advisor informing me that the engine needed to be completely replaced or sent for rebuilding due to an excessive oil leak. The news that I was getting from the dealer advisor confused and shocked me.
The advisor informed me that my automobile was in such poor condition—engine oil was leaking everywhere—that they had opted not to service it and that it could only be sent for rebuilding or replacement. This news continued to perplex me, and I began to wonder why my Opel Astra's two new engines could not go past 170,000 kilometers when it was supposed to be serviced now for 165,000 KM. The dealer adviser informed me that due to the oil leaks, the car was never replaced with a new engine, but rather a rebuilt engine.
The major core issue that I raised with Opel SA was that they should help me resolve this issue because they were meant to do the proper thing by installing a new engine, but instead, they de*****ed me by replacing it with a remanufactured engine in 2020.
Seeking Help from Opel SA I communicated with an Opel Sa representative, who confirmed that when the engine is replaced while the car is under warranty, it should be replaced with a new engine. Since then, there has been no additional communication from them offering to assist in resolving their mistake, because if it had been replaced with a new engine in 2020. I would understand that it was my responsibility to bear the expense of repairing the car.
May you assist me in obtaining fair compensation to repair my car. I believe if it had a new engine, it would not have gotten to this point. I believe I would have had basic minimal problems that I would have to deal with given that it has been over four years already.
