Extremely Disappointed

Yesterday my dog, a miniature French Poodle, injured herself jumping for a ball being tossed between two people. She fell badly and yelped in pain. I took her to an emergency vet, but was advised to keep her still, but if her condition worsen, she should be taken to a specialist. I kept her still for the night and I was most concerned as she shivered the whole time and she looked miserable. As I was at my house in Pretoria and restricted by the lockdown, I thought it best to call Onderstepoort early this morning on the emergency number. On hearing my story, the doctor on duty said that it did not sound like an emergency and, despite my protestations, said that I could call for an appointment during normal office hours. I decided to rather take my dog to Johannesburg Specialist Veterinary Centre who firstly accepted my observations of my dog's condition as valid and, on seeing my dog, immediately admitted her, administered much needed pain ****ers, and within an hour had her in theatre to operate on a slipped disk - a far different approach to Onderstepoort. I am very disappointed in Onderstepoort, an institution that has always been held in high regard by South Africans.
