OnAir TV Do not trust them, rather deal with Multichoice directly when buying a decoder as OnAir have no busiines ethics.
These guys are right on the cusp of being outright con artists. They basically do business by being "Economical with the truth" up front and then ducking the issue.
Untruth 1 Their opening gambit is that they have been asked by Multi-choice to notify subscribers that the existing Decoder is going to be made obsolete due to the software no longer being supported by M-Net and we need to upgrade. Not an actual lie but not the truth either, as all decoders will ultimately become obsolete but not in the short term as imp**** by the OnAir TV sales team. So I believed them.... should have checked with Multi-Choice but we all get suckered some time.
Untruth 2 I specifically asked if the new decoder required a recent model TV and was assured that the new decoder would work with whatever TV I was currently using. Again an untruth, what I did ask was did it require a Smart TV and they rep****, "No it will work with any TV" The penny should have dropped then as I was not asked what my current decoder was so how could they have answered my question ? a bad day on my side.
Untruth 3 when asked about the debit order start date i was told that it would start in the first month on the day agreed after the decoder was delivered and activated. On the delivery note that I had to sign on delivery I states clearly that the contract will only be activated within 48 hours of activation. When I opened the Decoder Box I discovered that it is not compatible with my TV as is a SDI cable and the decoder only supports HDMI and RSA connection. I called in and informed OnAir that the decoder was no use to me, but they came back with answers that id did support SDI but I'm sure the call centre agents have no idea what SDI is and were just answering from a crib sheet. The last straw was that although I have a decoder that I cannot use and is not activated the debit order will still be in force even though the contract will only be activated once the decoder is activated.
The consumer protection act says I can return with a full refund if the item purchase does not meet my needs and still with the original packaging but OnAir will not give me an address where I can return it to.
I currently sit with a device which is useless to me but OnAir still want to be paid for it.
I phoned Multi-choice to find out when my decoder was going to stop working and was told that there are no plans to obsolete any decoders, but then asked me if I got this from OnAir TV. They apologised that I had been misled but could not do much about it as OnAir was a independent company.
Technically they have done nothing wrong, but morally and professionally they are ******* and not a company I would advise anyone to deal with. As Multichoice reminded me, they are my service provider including the supply of decoders so always deal with them directly.
I'm still awaiting a solution from OnAir as to how to connect to my TV and as of yet nothing of much use has been forth coming.
